- INTRODUCTION
-
- AMQM - THE ALL MODE QSO MAKER
- =============================
- AMQM is not just another terminal program. This is especially made for
- making QSOs with DX stations on HF digital modes such as PACTOR,
- AMTOR, and RTTY. It works with CW too. Sorry it can not make QSOs of
- its own - as far as I know unattended HF is not yet allowed in many
- countries. But AMQM will reduce your typing almost by 90%. You only
- have to type the Call sign, Name, RST rx/tx and QTH of the DX station.
- These things you can do while the QSO is progressing. AMQM will do the
- rest. It will even keep a log and keep a recorded file of all what you
- did. This program is written for lazy hams - like me (of course I had
- to write the program, what to do? But it helps me to reduce lot of
- typing after that - hi!). Any way it also keeps your expensive
- transceiver more than 50% less time transmitting for cool long life.
- AMQM program can be even use for Packet Radio or any other digital
- mode as a simple terminal program, but AMQM is written for Digital
- DXing and CW with TNC. Look the new idea Packet Help with AMQM!!!

- FEATURES OF AMQM
- ================
-
- * Can be configure for virtually any TNC/DATA CONTROLLER.
-
- * Works with CW, RTTY, AMTOR, PACTOR and any other digital mode.
-
- * User definable text to send. AMQM randomly select text and
- process with information of the DX stations call, name and other
- info such as report etc. So, it does not send identical overs
- again and again, and there is always a variation as you actually
- typing text. Facility to insert additional information (when you
- start the over) to be sent, such as request to repeat name or
- report or your QSL info or repeating of your name.
-
- * Automatic log keeping. And as you enter a DX callsign, AMQM will
- read its own log book to display any log entries with same
- callsign.
-
- * Automatic recording (capture) of the full AMQM session. A utility
- program is supplied to up date this file (It deletes all activity
- of 3 days or older). This utility works only with registered
- users. Type QMACT to start the program.
-
- * AMQM call CQ automatically... (Once called by F8)
-
- * File Up-loading. Suppose if you want to up load a file, a msg,
- ascii text file, or 7+ file in to a Amtor/Pactor MBX (or to a
- Packet Radio BBS), you can do that with this function. If you
- wish you can have additional text files for you to send, in case
- some one asks for your address - keep one file handy with your
- address in it - why bother to type these things - hi hi!
-
- * AMQM does not send commands to the TNC, unless you have given
- commands in the AMQM.INI file or in the QSO files. In a way this
- is good, you can control your TNC as you like. You can
- easily/anytime change parameters of your TNC, who cares!
-
-
-
-
- REQUIREMENTS
- ============
- IBM PC xt or compatible (286 or higher recommended)
- With one RS232 COM
- port free to connect
- your TNC.
- MS/PC DOS 3.3 or higher

- KNOWN PROBLEMS
- ==============
- * The unregistered version works only for 15 mints. When it is
- about to finish (before 3 mints) it will give you a warning
- signal (a beep every 5 seconds). Exit form AMQM and restart the
- program to work another 15 mints.
-
- * Registered version works only with registered call signs.

-
- INSTALL AMQM
- ============
- How to set-up and configure AMQM. This is not that difficult. Please
- unzip the AMQM1.ZIP in the directory where you want to keep AMQM (may
- be in C:\HAM\AMQM like in my one). Don't expect mega full of files to
- fill your hard disk. You even can keep all in a small 360K floppy disk
- and run AMQM from the floppy (but It will be slow).
-
- Now first thing you must do after you decompress, configure AMQM to
- your PC and TNC. This too is not very difficult, using an editor -
- edit the file name AMQM.INI (may be EDIT would do if you type EDIT
- AMQM.INI). In this file you have to enter the COM port number of your
- PC where you have connected your TNC, the baud-rate (communication
- speed), your callsign, selcall, name, qth and some default values. It
- also takes TNC initializing commands, if you wish to have any. On the
- INI file supplied with AMQM is configured for AEA-PK232. Please
- consult your TNC manual for any other info.
-
-
-
- AMQM.INI Info of the line

- AES ON }
- CBE ON } any number of TNC command lines.
- MCO OFF } As soon as you start AMQM, these lines will
- RESTART } be issued to the TNC.
-
-
-
-
-
-
-
-
-
-
-
-
- Once AMQM is setup properly, you should be able to type AMQM and start
- the program.
-
- But before you do so, you will have to change some of the info that I
- have entered in my QSO files. You may find CWQSO.INF, RTTYQSO.INF,
- ARQQSO.INF (may be some new QSO) files with your AMQM. Each file store
- information of what to send during a CW, RTTY or AMTOR qso. Edit each
- of these files and change the station setup info that I have entered
- to yours. The other info also can be changed as you like. You may also
- want to change any TNC commands, if you are not using a AEA-PK232 TNC.
- If you want to know more info a bout these QSO files, look for the
- topic *Info on QSO files* at the end of this manual.
-
-
-
- DXING WITH AMQM
- ===============
- When you enter in to AMQM, you will see a simple greetings screen
- giving some info on AMQM. At this point press any key to go in to the
- DXing screen (Well AMQM does not have 100 screens, this is the only
- screen you will see all the time. In this screen (Sorry you can not
- change colours), you may see two text areas. The bigger upper area is
- for what you receive from TNC, and the lower small area is for what
- you are typing. At the very bottom, I have used to display Functions
- of Function keys. On the top line you may see the copyright msg, and
- on the middle line (where the two upper and lower screens are
- separated) you will see info like callsign, name, qth, reports, band,
- mode, greeting code, etc. Now you may have seen hundreds of this type
- of terminal programs, there nothing new about it. Meaning you have
- nothing much new to learn about, and only few things that you should
- know is how to operate AMQM.
-
- Once you are in the AMQM, it will ask few questions. First it will ask
- the greeting information. You can enter anything but, better you enter
- M for morning, A for afternoon or E for evening. This will be used for
- automatic greeting. Then it will ask the band of operation. Just type
- 20m or 15m or what ever you like (if you type anything it will accept)
- but write something meaningful, it will be used mainly for logging.
- Next question will be the mode you are going to operate, a tricky
- question... You can work on any mode you like, but depending on the
- mode you select, your QSO.INF file will be selected. If there is no
- QSO.INF file for the mode you select (let say if you type GTOR)
- program will ask the question again, till you enter a name where AMQM
- finds a QSO.INF file.
-
- In case you want to work on a mode which is not defined as a QSO.INF
- file - may be GTOR. Just type a mode available (like RTTY) to get
- access to AMQM terminal screen then manually change the TNC to GTOR
- and work as on a normal terminal. But If you request to send any text
- from F10 menu, AMQM will send RTTY text. Best thing is to have a small
- GTORQSO.INF file created with proper information. If you want to know
- more info about these QSO.INF files, look for the topic "Info on QSO
- files" at the end.
-
-
-
-
-
-
-
-
-
-
-
-
-
-
-
-
-
-
-
- F1 to F5
- --------
- All the function keys from 1 to 5 are assigned to data inputs you need
- to use for QSOs.
-
- F1 = Callsign of the DX station. (Default = "DX")
- F2 = Name of the DX station.
- F3 = Qth of the DX station.
- (As this field is not used in any of the default QSO text,
- you may keep this field blank. This filed is only used for
- in the logbook, but u can use this in qso file if you wish).
- F4 = Report (Received).
- F5 = Report Transmitted. (Default 579)
-
- All data fields are limited character, auto clearing type entries. On
- these simple inputs no curser keys working other than [Enter] key and
- [BACK SPACE] - Delete key will be working.
-
- Although all inputs are similar data entries, F1 is slightly different
- from others. When you enter F1 (Callsign of the dx station) AMQM
- checks the log file for previous QSOs made with the same station, if
- found, the AMQM will show them on the middle of the screen, in a small
- (green colour) window.
-
-
- F6 & F7
- -------
- F6 [**] is nothing, you can either programmed something, or may be
- next release of AMQM will have something depending on your
- suggestions. F7 [OTHR] is exactly the same 3 inputs (Greeting Code,
- Band and Mode) that you entered at the beginning. As these inputs are
- not often used and we have not much function keys left, they are all
- assign to one F7 function. Sorry - ha!
-
-
- Going On Air
- ------------
- Now you have entered all the info needed and ready to work (lets
- assume a RTTY qso). Connect your TNC to the radio, and tune to a RTTY
- frequency of the band you selected. Let say you heard my good friend
- VK5RY (which you have never worked him before) calling CQ. Quickly
- press F1 and enter his callsign, press F10 and "0" enter.
-
- Now you will see AMQM answers. When he answer your call, press F5 and
- enter the report for him. When he finish, just press F10 and "1"
- enter. Woooo.. thats AMQM. On his turn while he is transmitting, press
- F4 and enter the report he gave you, enter his name RON (as he print
- on your screen) in to F2, also his QTH if you like in to F3. As he
- finish his over you are ready to answer and you have nothing else to
- enter now... if you wish to give your station info and continue the
- qso for tree overs, press F10 and "2" enter, otherwise to finish,
- press F10 and "3" enter. (F10-"3" also LOGs your QSO). To give a extra
- (small) final, press F10 and "E".
-
- If this is bit confusing, and if you want to see how AMQM is
- responding, just switch off your radio while the TNC is on, and assume
- you are working with some one and work on AMQM. You will see how it
- works rather than going on air and make errors at the first time.
-
-
-
-
-
-
-
-
-
-
-
-
-
-
- WHAT YOU SEE ON F10 SCREEN
- --------------------------
-
-
- SEND COMMANDS.
- """"""""""""""
- (1) Intro DX OVERS, First introduction (rst,Name,Qth),
- (2) Setup Second about working condition,
- (3) Sign off Third signing off.
-
- (R)peat/Request Short over, must use with ADDitions to give
- repeates or to request information from DX.
-
- Final=(E)/add(Q)rz? Short Grand Final Over, Add Q to send a QRZ? after
- final. On ARQ modes, (Q)rz will not work, but Link
- down will be issued. Without any addition.
-
- (0)Answer Answer to a CQ call. (on ARQ modes, Answer will be
- sent on FEC mode)
-
- (Q)rz? Genaral QRZ?
-
- CqCq=(G) CQ, optianal directional can be entered in F1. The
- same text will be used for F8.
-
- Connect(K) Connect Request. Callsign of the station to
- connect will be requested by an input befour
- connect.
- (Works only on AMTOR and PACTOR).
-
-
- DO NOT SEND RST
- """""""""""""""
- (X)dn't snd RST When Add X on the first DX over, RST will not be
- sent. You can add RST in the next over.
-
- ADD TO SEND
- """"""""""" Adds work only with (2)(3) and (R). But requests work
- with DX over (1) too, in addition to above.
-
- (N)ame Add repetetion NAME
- (R)st Add repetetion of RST
- (Q)th Add repetetion of QTH
- (I)nfo Qsl Add QSL information
- (C)all Correction of your callsign. Also works on (1).
-
- (M)Name? Request DX to repeat/give his Name.
- (T)Rst? Request DX to repeat/give his RST.
- (W)Qth? Request DX to repeat/give his QTH.
- (A)sk Qsl? Request DX to give his QSL information.
-
-
- F8 Calling CQ
- --------------
- But what if no one is calling CQ? Ok for you to call CQ, just press
- F8... now wait till some one answers your call. AMQM will
- automatically call CQ one after the other with a 15 seconds interval
- for some one to answer, if some one is answering (mean if the TNC is
- sending some letters to the terminal) AMQM will wait... either for you
- to respond to him or for him to fed-up and go (so AMQM can call CQ
- again). To stop calling auto CQ just press enter. Please not by
- entering data in to F1-F5 inputs will not stop auto CQ. But any data
- entry above F5 will also stop calling auto CQ.
-
-
-
-
-
-
-
-
-
- Auto Loging
- -----------
- Now that is not the end of dxing with AMQM, when you send the F10-"3"
- last text over, AMQM also logs automatically your QSO to the AMQM.LOG
- file, and Green colour line will appear with logged information on the
- middle of the screen to indicate the logging. The info of DX callsign,
- Name, QTH, reports you entered in to F1-F5 will become Defaults. If
- there is no callsign is entered auto log function will not work with
- F10-"3". If you need, AMQM.LOG can be read from a dos text viewer,
- like LIST.COM. When you run AQACT (Capture file processing program, it
- will show you number of log entries made on each day - only available
- for registered users).
-
-
- File Up Load
- ------------
- What is F9 FILE function? Well if you want to send a file, usually 7+
- or ASCII.TXT you can press F9 and enter the name of the file to be
- sent. Don't worry no matter the length of your file, AMQM will not
- overflow the buffer of your TNC which leads to errors, but AMQM will
- handle it intelligently as Fast/Slow as your link. When sending a
- file, user should not type anything on the keyboard -- in which case
- file up-loading will be terminated immediately.
-
-
- Manual Typing
- -------------
- If you really enjoy typing text (then why use AMQM?) you can simply do
- that as on the AMQM, just like typing text on any other terminal
- program.
- But On AMQM all text lines will word truncate, (move to a new line on
- a space) after 65 characters. This is because it is easy for the
- person who reads your text at the other end without moving his head
- too much - hi! The word truncate will work even when AMQM is sending
- F10 text, but when you send a file using F9, word truncate function
- will be disabled. So you have to take care about that or in the case
- 7+, it will know what to do.
-
-
- Exit AMQM
- ---------
- There are two functions that you can not see any hint on the screen of
- AMQM, that is EXIT and CLEAR SCREEN.
-
- Quit AMQM = press CTRL+Q (^Q)
- CLear SCreen = press CTRL+S (^S)
-
-
- Function Key Summery of AMQM
- ----------------------------
- F1 Enter DX call sign.
- F2 Enter Name of the DX station.
- F3 Enter QTH of the DX station.
- F4 Enter RST rcved.
- F5 Enter RST to send.
- F6 -- not used.
- F7 Enter Greeting, Band and Mode.
- F8 Call CQ-CQ and continue automatically.
- F9 Send File (Up load).
- F10 Process and send QSO overs.
-
- ^S Clear screen. (Ctrl+S)

- INFO LINE
- ---------
- The line between the lower screen (input are) and the upper screen
- (output area) is called the info line. On this you may see some useful
- information for you to work on AMQM. Although not indicated, as you
- enter some data into F1 (DX call) that will appear on the left side of
- the info line. If no call is entered, it shows DX. Which is used for
- when calling CQ DX. Second place will be the name of DX, Third QTH,
- Then the reports (Rcved/Sent) within brackets. At the end it show what
- band and mode of operation. It also shows greeting code, G= (M/A/E).
- Then shows the QSO number. Indicating number of QSOs logged for the
- day.
-
- Now what more to type about AMQM, the rest you have to learn by your
- self. I told you I am lazy type, to type text - that is why I made
- AMQM. As you see, AMQM is simple and straight forward, there are no
- hidden menus and other nonsense. But it simply does what it should do,
- nice and user - friendly manner. Isn't it good? Please write about

- TEXT CONTROL CODES FOR QSO FILES
- --------------------------------
- When a text block is started with *x* command. AMQM reads two lines at
- a time unless specified. It randomly decide what line to send, and add
- the line in to TNC buffer. There are other commands that you can put
- in a text stream to control what you are sending.
-
- - Reads single line and add this to text.
-
- + Reads three lines (using for RST) after this line, select either
- first or second randomly and send, if X was issued with text
- selection input send the third line, instead of first or second.
-
- & Make a input. Line prior to this line should have the input text
- followed by length (two digits), variable number (two digits).
- Any line after & command is normal.
-
- = Print text (max 79 characters).
-
- ? Conditional addition, ?N text.... if character N was issued with
- text selection input, this line will be added to text stream.
- (Above codes must be issued at a beginning of a line).
-

-
- You should not try to change any text in the macro command file. It
- can be changed, but information on that can not be given (too
- complicated) as some of the parameters involved with internal
- programming in AMQM. If you can understand the logic of it you may be
- able to program F6 function key for your own input. But remember not
- to program or change any other keys, this might lead to problems.
